St. Thomas Ground Transportation
Ground transportation on St. Thomas consists of bus service to and from the airport and, on a somewhat less frequent schedule, other areas of the island as well. Rural areas are typically not served by buses so taxis and rental cars are the only way to get to those areas.
Unless you are at one of the major resorts, and plan to spend much of your time there, the best and most affordable means of getting around will be to secure a rental car.
A lot of people who visit St. Thomas also like a ski vacation, especially in places like Park City, Utah. We recommend Park City Transportation for the best in ground transportation in Park City. St. Thomas, Virgin Islands Ground Transportation: Buses, Taxis, and Car Rentals
St. Thomas Bus Service
Primarily useful for travel between the airport and town.
St. Thomas Taxi Service
Airport Taxis - The taxis servicing the airport are all vans that pick up multiple groups going to different destinations, this is not the direct service you may expect from a direct hire taxi. Fares run from $3 to $13 for the first person and then are discounted for additional passengers with the same destination. Expect an extra charge for luggage, so ask before you pie in what the charge with luggage will be.
Direct Taxis - An option to the taxi vans is to call a private taxi to pick you up at the airport. They will likely cost a bit more but can be worth the convenience. These are also the ones you will use if booking a taxi for island transportation during your stay.
St. Thomas Virgin Islands Car Rentals
Renting your own car is the best way to get around the island. There are plenty of rental car companies on St. Thomas to choose from but it is advised to book your car ahead of your arrival, especially during peak travel times. View St. Thomas car rentals companies.
